Mango Chela
Cream Ale | 5% ALC. VOL | 15 IBU | Brewed in 2016 / Rebrewed for our 10th anniversary in 2024
Our summer muse
The portrait
Beneath her sun-kissed dress, our muse is wrapped this year in a delicate mango scent. Mango Chela is our tropical take on the original Chela, this time enhanced with exotic fruit.
Brewed like its big sister with a more generous corn content, it officially joins the American "Cream Ale" style and the Zeppelin's family of ephemerals. This malty-corn base gives it the style's characteristic sweetness, a roundness in the mouth that makes each sip slide like velvet.
Subtly hopped, both in bitterness and aroma, at only 15 IBU, it provides the necessary space for the fruit to express itself. The mango doesn't play the intruder: it integrates harmoniously into this Cream Ale structure, guaranteeing freshness and summer drinkability.
The result? A beer that tastes like vacation, where the sweetness of American corn meets tropical exoticism in a perfect 5% balance.
The story
Mango Chela is part of our tradition of fruity variations, this ability we have to reinvent our classics without distorting them.
Building on our Chela to create a mango version was a natural progression. This Cream Ale style lends itself perfectly to fruity additions: its sweet, malty base welcomes exotic flavors without overwhelming them. Corn, a signature ingredient of the American style, provides a creamy roundness that pairs perfectly with the mango pulp.
This ephemeral beer illustrates our approach to seasonal beers: taking a solid base and reinterpreting it to suit the mood of the moment. Mango Chela proves that innovation sometimes simply means clever variation.
She joins this "family of ephemeral Zeppelins," our temporary creations that punctuate the year with taste surprises while keeping our DNA intact.
Food and beer pairings
This mango Cream Ale navigates between tropical freshness and American sweetness, opening up a wide spectrum of summer pairings.
Tropical fruit salads find it an obvious ally. Mango-avocado salad, pineapple carpaccio, or a simple bowl of exotic fruits: the resonance is immediate, creating a fruit-fruit harmony that amplifies the natural flavors.
On the Asian side , she excels with mild Thai dishes. Shrimp pad Thai, green chicken curry, papaya som tam: its sweetness tempers the spices while the mango dialogues with the oriental flavors.
Grilled fish benefits from its freshness. Sea bream with herbs, grilled salmon, or a simple fillet of pollock: the fruity acidity tenderizes the flesh while the creamy base coats the palate.
For cheeses, choose soft cheeses with a bloomy rind. Camembert from Normandy, Brie de Meaux: the contrast between milky richness and fruity liveliness creates surprising harmonies.
For dessert, try pairing it with a mango tart or exotic fruit sorbet. The malty sweetness of the Cream Ale extends the dessert without overwhelming it.
The final word
Mango Chela is one of our recurring ephemeral beers, a category of beers that punctuate our summers with their tropical freshness. It perfectly embodies our ability to recreate our classics without betraying them.
This mango version of our Chela reminds us that innovation can be simple: starting with a mastered base and enhancing it with precision. When summer arrives, Mango Chela awaits us, faithful to the rendezvous of sunny thirsts.
Cheers! 🍻
